Iaroslav Volovod was born in Murmansk, USSR and earned his BA in Asian and African Studies from St. Petersburg State University and his MA in Curatorial Studies from Bard College, NY, conducting part of his research at Heidelberg University, Germany. Iaroslav was also awarded a Diploma of Excellence from Central Institute of Hindi in New Delhi, India. He was a member of the TRANScuratorial Academy (Berlin / Mumbai) program, and collaborated with the Calvert 22 Foundation (London), the PRO ARTE Fund for Culture and Art (St. Petersburg), the international organization CEC ArtsLink (New York / St. Petersburg) and other institutions. He was twice nominated for the Sergei Kuryokhin award in the field of contemporary art in 2015 and 2016. He is Сurator at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow.
Recent curatorial projects include: She. The Title of Artist(co-curated with Masha Godovannaya and Yana Mikhalina), Museum of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, 2015; Mirages of Bollywood, Vertical Gallery, St. Petersburg, 2016; Topology of a Phantom City (co-curated with Andrei Misiano), New Holland: Cultural Urbanization, St. Petersburg, 2017; Congo Art Works: Popular Painting (co-curated with Sammy Baloji, Bambi Ceuppens and Valentin Diaconov), Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, 2017;a good neighbour(collaboration with the Istanbul Biennial), Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, 2017; Infinite Ear (co-curated with Council and Anastasia Mityushina), Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, 2018; The Fabric of Felicity (co-curated with Valentin Diaconov and Katya Lazareva), Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, 2018.

Curatorial Residency in Stockholm(CRIS) 
Curatoria lResidency in Stockholm(CRIS) is a collaboration between the Nordic Art Association in Sweden and Jonatan Habib Engqvist, curator and writer. It was conceived in 2015 as free-space for curators. Previous guests at Malongen have been: Riksa Afiaty (ID), Elena Agudio (IT), Abir Boukhari(SY), Övul O. Durmusoglu (TU), Marina Folkidis (GR), Eva González-Sancho(ES), Juha Huskonen (FI), Adam Kleinmann (US) Lorenzo Sandoval (ES), Viktorija Šiaulytė (ES), Marina Vale Noronha (BRA), Amara Antilla (US),Basak Senova (TR), Joanna Sokołowska (PL), Berit Schuck (DE/EG).
CRIShas also been able to send Swedish curators to Egypt, Finland, Iceland, Iranand Turkey. Since 2018 CRIS collaborates with GeoAir in Tbilisi, Georgia,as well as a 3-year project with FRAME, Finland and CCA, Estonia thatencompasses curatorial assistant stipends, residencies and research trips forcurators. The first trip to Finland was at the end of May, a second one to Estoniawill in August and a third trip for 6-8 curators is currently being planned forNovember 2018.
In2017 CRIS collaborated with the curatorial program for research, CPR on anambitious international nomadic residency for 9 curators to Estonia, Sweden,Norway and Denmark. 
CRIS is supported by The Swedish Arts Council and the city of Stockholm.Ithas also been supported from multiple sources, including Nordisk Kulturfond,the Swedish Arts Council, the city of Stockholm, Institutfrançaisde Suède, the Spanish embassies in Stockholm, Oslo andTallinn, The Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center, Kultur Skåne,Tjeckiska centret Stockholm, Danish Arts Foundation as well as several local collaborations.
