The Nordic Guest Studio- Ingirafn Steinarsson (IS)

Event type:
The Nordic Guest Studio
When:
1 Dec 2015 to 31 Dec 2015

In December 2016, Ingirafn Steinarsson from Iceland will be guesting the studio as part of the exchange program between Slakthusateljéerna + Air d'Islande and Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, Seyðisfjörður.

Ingirafn Steinarsson, b. 1973 in Lund and educated at a. o. Malmö Art Academy, is an Icelandic artist based in Seyðisfjörður. Steinarsson returns in his work to the ability of art to communicate with the surrounding world, as well as to how the understanding produced relates to society. His investigations often take the shape of questions which are integrated with the art pieces’s functions; objects and video pieces, where the artist through various media and through sociological as well as psychological and epistemological aspects, approaches what he describes as an ”aesthetic of knowledge”. Currently Steinarsson works with a series of colourful drawings based on illustrations with the purpose of explaining, for instance, Western technology or the spirituality within the New Age movement.

Slakthusateljéerna + Air d'Islande is an exchange and collaborative project initiated by Malin Pettersson Öberg and Ari Allansson in 2014. The purpose is to create exchanges and networks between artists and cultural producers in Iceland, France and Sweden, and to explore approaches to places and cultural identity. Slakthusateljéerna + Air d'Islande has resulted in a series of residencies, presentations and conversations between visual artists and self-organized platforms and is organized in collaboration with the Nordic Art Association and Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, Seyðisfjörður. The collaboration has been carried out with the support of Iaspis - The Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s International Programme for Visual Artists, Nordisk kulturfond and the Nordic Culture Point.
