Artistic Residency with Banji Chona and Katarina Spik Skum

The Nordic Art Association, in collaboration with the National Museums of World Culture Sweden, Konstfack, Southnord, and IASPIS the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, is hosting an artistic residency in spring 2026 with Banji Chona and Katarina Spik Skum.

Banji Chona (Zambia) is an artist whose practice critically explores relationships between history, storytelling, healing and co-creation, with a focus on nature and the people around the Zambezi River. Katarina Spik Skum (Sápmi) is a Sámi textile artist and duodjár who works from her origins and culture. In collaboration with other artists/craftspeople, she creates works in which she transforms Sámi culture into new expressions.

During the residency in Stockholm the artists will jointly examine a collection of cloaks made from antelope skin from the Twa people in Zambia. Today the antelope species Kawambwa lechwe, whose hides were used to make the cloaks, is extinct and the craft is no longer practiced.

The Nordic Art Association provides studio space for the artistic residency and serves as a central platform for the collaboration between the artists. The artists will participate in the Nordic Art Association's residency program and present parts of their work in a public format during the residency period.

The collaboration between the artists will result in several public outcomes within the framework of the participating institutions, including exhibitions, publications and presentations documenting their joint process.
