Vi annonserar stolt att Abir Boukhari kommer till Nordiska Gästateljén i september som gästa inom projektet Curatorial Residency in Stockholm (CRIS).
I anslutning till Boukharis vistelse i Stockholm anordnas ett publikt samtal med Maria Lantz, rektor för Konstfack, den 17/9 samt en soloutställning med den syriska konstnären Muhammad Ali. Utställningen kommer att vara en prolog till den utställning som Boukhari curerar på Hangman Projects (2-17 Oktober 2015). Utställningen kan ses 20-27 september eller enligt överenskommelse, eller under öppet hus på Malongen den 19e september.
Abir Boukhari är direktör, curator och med-grundare av AllArtNow, syriens första center för samtidskonst, grundat 2005. AllArtNow utgör en platform för samtidskonst i Syrien, utvecklar internationella konstnärliga samarbeten, och stödjer unga konstnärer att utveckla, producera och utföra sina verk. Det är en hub för samtidskonst som uppmuntrar experiment (kontroversiella ideer i Syrien). Boukhari var tidigare direktör för Living Spaces Festival for Contemporary Arts, konstnärlig ledare för Studio (en informell skola för samtidskonst i Syrien) samt medgrundare till Boukhari House for Artist Residencies och Maktab Creative Zone i Damascus. Hon har arbetat som självständig curator sedan 2006, och producerat utställningar för så olika platser som Taksim Gallery (Istanbul), Arab Short Festival (Cairo), Les Instants Festival (Marseille) och Gotham Arts Studios (västra australien). Hon har tränats genom praktik på Tate Modern (London) och Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin).
CRIS är ett samarbete mellan Nordiska Konstförbundet och Jonatan Habib Engqvist, curator och skribent. Under sina residensperioder, vistas curatorer i centrala Stockholm och erbjuds möjligheten att ta del av den lokala konstscenen. CRIS är tänkt som ett frirum för curatorer. Den första gästen 2015 var Eva González-Sancho. CRIS utvecklar för närvarande samarbeten med, bland andra platser, Townhouse Gallery (Kairo) och Residency Unlimited (New York).
CRIS möjliggörs genom stöd från Kulturrådet och Stockholm Stad samt lokala samarbeten för varje gäst.

Curatorial Residency in Stockholm (CRIS) news
We are proud to announce that Abir Boukhari will come to Nordiska Gästateljén in September within the project Curatorial Residency in Stockholm (CRIS).
In conjunction to Boukharis´ residency in Stockholm there will be a public conversation with Maria Lantz, Vice- chancellor of Konstfack, at 6 pm on September 17th and a solo exhibition with Syrian artist Muhammad Ali. The exhibition is concived as a proplouge to the larger group exhibition that Boukhari is curating for Hangman Projects (October 2-17 2015). The exhibition with Muhammad Ali can be visited 20-27th September, 6-8pm or by appointment and during Malongen Open House on September 19th.
Abir Boukhari is the director, curator and co-founder of AllArtNow, the first contemporary art centre in Syria, founded in Damascus in 2005. AllArtNow creates a platform for contemporary arts in Syria, develops artistic cooperation and exchanges around the world, and helps emerging contemporary artists to learn, produce and diffuse their artworks. It is a hub devoted to contemporary arts and the encouragement of experimentality (controversial ideas in Syria). Previously, Boukhari was the artistic director for Living Spaces Festival for Contemporary Arts, the artistic director of Studio (an informal school for contemporary arts in Syria) and the co-founder of Boukhari House for Artist Residencies and Maktab Creative Zone, all of which were located in Damascus. She has worked as an independent curator since 2006, creating exhibitions for institutions and galleries as varied as Taksim Gallery (Istanbul), the Arab Short Festival (Cairo), Les Instants Festival (Marseille) and Gotham Arts Studios (Western Australia). She trained augmented her training through internships at the Tate Modern (London) and Hamburger Bahnhof Museum (Berlin).
Curatorial Residency in Stockholm (CRIS) is a collaboration between the Nordic Art Association in Sweden and Jonatan Habib Engqvist, curator and writer. During their residency period, curators live in central Stockholm and can immerse themselves in the local art scene. It conceived as free-space for curators. The first resident in 2015 was Eva González-Sancho.
CRIS is supported by The Swedish Arts Council and the city of Stockholm as well as local collaborations for each guest. CRIS is currently developing collaborations with, among other places Townhouse Gallery (Cairo) and Residency Unlimited (New York).
