Our current guest Jonathan Middleton is an artist, curator, and member of Duplex Studios in Vancouver, Canada. Middleton is the first of a series of artists visiting Stockholm this summer as part of a collaboration with between Duplex and Slakthusateljéerna. His practice proceeds from strong interests in language, failure, and contradictory systems such as comedy. His artwork has been presented at Plaza Projects, the Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver), Vancouver International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, VIVO Media Arts, Tracey Lawrence Gallery, among others. Middleton served as Director/Curator of Western Front Exhibitions (1999–2005) and Or Gallery (2007–2017) and was the founding publisher and an editorial board member of the art periodical Fillip (2004–2008). He currently works with artist/designer Derek Barnett in a design and publishing collaboration called Information Office.
While in Stockholm, Middleton will have a Talk on the 18/6 at 18:00 at the Nordic Guest Studio where he will share information about various artist-run gallery and exhibition projects and make work and conduct research on his recent interest in constellations, trajectories, and the 16th century astronomer Tycho Brahe.
